GoCompare, which is based in Cwmbran, won the award this year at the Private Business Awards for the high growth business of the year category, emphasising its importance with regard to the economy of the area.

The awards were held at the Savoy Hotel in London and were attended by many prominent figures in business within the United Kingdom. The awards were established to stress the importance of private sector business within the UK economy.

GoCompare is a company that has been going from strength to strength despite the troublesome economy of the past few years, and in March it announced that it has increased its turnover from £74.9 million to £101.5 million, with a total profit of £30.1 million being generated within the past year – its highest profit yet.

In her speech upon collecting the award, the chief executive of the company, Hayley Parsons, declared that she was “absolutely delighted” by the award and added that it was nice to win an award that wasn’t for being the most annoying advert of the year.

Tracy Bentham, who is the partner with PwC (one of the companies sponsoring the event) in Wales said in relation to GoCompare that companies such as it were vital to the economy in Wales, and that private sector jobs are more important than ever for the economy of the UK as a whole.

On top of GoCompare’s award, other awards included Arup winning employer of the year and Dyson winning private business of the year.
