Click and collect could create a goldmine for transport companies

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

Click and collect is a modern-day version of what a lot of people might have done in the past -  ordering an item and then going to collect it themselves. These days, such transactions are carried out online, and transport companies could heavily benefit from this growing trend – by doing the collecting for people. This advice has stemmed from Daniel Lucht, a senior consultant at Research Farm.

The click and collect system has been highly successful in many other European countries, such as Germany, Belgium and France, and it has the potential to become more popular in Wales and the UK as a whole, with sideline industries such as transport recruitment also being boosted as a result.

Since the property market is especially low at the moment, transport companies could do well to buy sites to use as hubs for their click and collect schemes. The market has a lot of potential at the moment too, since unemployment is high, and a lot of transport recruitment would be required for multiple types of jobs in the supply chain; from the drivers themselves to line controllers and customer service representatives.

At the moment, trials of the scheme are being carried out by Tesco, although many transport companies will doubtlessly be monitoring these trials to see how successful they are. Since it is a new area, there is a lot of potential for huge growth over the next few years, which will do transport recruitment and the economy as a whole a lot of good, in Wales and across the UK.
